The new Union County Website is up and running. Please log onto www.unioncountyiowa.org. All departments worked together with Creston resident, Dennis LaMasters, who designed our web site. The Recorder's Record Management Fund was utilized to pay for the web site. This special fund comes from a $1.00 per document fee and is specified for technology updates.
A hunter safety course is scheduled for Sept. 11 & 12. You may call and pre-register.
Paid and landowner deer tags go on sale August 15.
Iowa Boats renew every 2 years and should be current though April 30, 2005. If you plan to purchase or sell a boat, it must be current before the transfer can take place. If you purchase a boat 17" or longer, if may be titled and you will need a signed title and registration to transfer your purchase.
A certified copy of a vital record costs $10.00, requires a photo I.D. and a direct tangible interest. You must be 18 or older to obtain a certified copy.

The Auditor's Office is preparing for the September 14, 2004 School Board Election. School Board candidates should file their papers with the School Board Secretary by August 5, 2004. The last day for the Voter Registration for the School Board Election is September 3, 2004.
The General Election is November 2, 2004. The State Filing Deadline is August 13, 2004 with the State of Iowa. The County Filing Deadline is August 25, 2004 for all county and township offices. The Auditor's Office is accepting Request for Absentee Ballot for the General Election; however, the ballot will be mailed out on September 23, 2004.
As of July 1, 2004 General Relief recipients need to go to Matura for assistance, since the county no longer has a full-time General Relief Coodinator. Iowa City papers will be taken care of in the Auditor's Office.

The Treasurer's Office is preparing for the 2004-05 real estate tax year. The tax receipts should be ran by the third week in August and should be in the mail to tax payers by the last week of August. If you'd like to pick up your tax statement, you may do so beginning the week of August 23rd. The first half tax payment is due September 30th, 2004. As always, you can pay them in our office, through the mail or online at www.iowatreasurers.org.
The change in the damage disclosure law for vehicle transfers has caused several customers buying vehicles from private individuals to make two trips to our office before completing their transfer. If you purchase, or are selling, a 1997 or newer vehicle, you need one of the new damage disclosure statements filled out by the seller. You may get that form from our office or online at: www.iowatreasurers.org.

All Union County residents who have purchased a home and moved should stop in and sign a New Homestead and Military exemption, if eligible. If you have made any building changes, please notify this office. Family Farm Credit is now a one-time sign up and can be signed at any time for qualifying ground.
