Courthouse News & Announcements

Courthouse News - February 4, 2005

UNION COUNTY RECORDER - Paula White, 641-782-1725.

Boats in Iowa renew by April 30, 2005 and owners will need to supply length, width and hull ID#, if it isn’t already on your registration. All boats must be current before they can be transferred to a new owner.

If you plan to travel outside the United States and need a passport, please apply early. Regular processing requires 25 business days.

A certified copy of a vital record is $15.00, requires a photo ID and a direct tangible interest.

UNION COUNTY AUDITOR - Sandy Hysell, 641-782-1701.

The Courthouse will be closed on February 21, 2005 to observe President’s Day. The Auditor’s office is working on the Fiscal Year 2005-2006 budget that has to be certified to the State by March 15, 2005. As a reminder, the County Townships need to be presenting their budgets to our office, in order to have the public hearing before the March 15, 2004 deadline.

The Auditor’s Office is also preparing for the Local Sales and Service Tax Election on March 29, 2005. All of the jurisdictions filed their ballot language and the 60-day notice was published in the Creston News Advertiser on January 26, 2005 and in the Afton Star on January 27, 2005. The Office is accepting absentee requests and the ballot should be ready in the first part of March.

UNION COUNTY TREASURER - Linda Marley, 641-782-1710.
Drivers License (hours 8:30-4:00)

Delinquent property tax notices went out Jan 31, 2005. Anyone that did not pay their first half taxes that were due in September 2004 should receive a notice. The notices also give the amount that will be due for the second half in March 2005.

The Elderly/Disabled Property tax credit forms are now available in our office. These forms need to be filled out and returned to our office by June 1, 2005.

The new Motor Vehicle system is working well. We are still a little slow in completing transactions. As we learn where to go to find the correct information, it will get faster. We found a few conversion problems, but that was to be expected when converting data from a system that was over 20 years old.

March will be a hectic month with second half taxes being due. Please remember to bring in the stubs that we mailed to you last September.

UNION COUNTY ASSESSOR - Gene Haner, 641-782-1735.

All Union County residents who have purchased a home and moved should stop in and sign a New Homestead and Military Exemption, if eligible.

If you have made any building changes, please notify this office.

Family Farm Credit is now a one-time sign up and can be signed at any time for qualifying ground.
