All boats in Iowa had a renewal date of April 30, 2005. If you missed the deadline, there is a $5.00 penalty. If you plan to buy or sell a boat, all boats must have a current registration at the time of sale. If you buy a boat out of state, you must also have a current registration and title. Please call if you have any questions.
Passport fees are now $97.00 for ages 16 & older and $82.00 for ages 15 & under. Please apply early to avoid expedite fees. A passport can take 25 business days to process plus mail time.

The Auditor’s Office is working on implementing the Help America Vote Act (HAVA). On May 5, 2005, Sandy Hysell, County Auditor; Mindy Schaefer, Election Deputy; and an Official assigned by the State went around and visited all the polling places to assess the handicap accessibility standards set by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of each polling site. Also, the Office is working on possibly scheduling two more voting equipment demonstrations with Sequoia and MicroVote.
The Courthouse will be closed on May 30, 2004 to observe Memorial Day.

Delinquent property tax notices went out last week. If your delinquent taxes are not paid by May 27, 2005, they will be published in the tax sale list. To avoid being offered at the tax sale, they will need to be paid by Friday June 17, 2005.
If you are interested in bidding at the tax sale, you will need to fill out a registration form and pay the registration fee by Thursday June 16, 2005. The registration papers will be available around the first of June.
If you schedule a drive test and find you cannot make the appointment, please call our office to let us know. No shows cause delays for others wanting those spots.
Be sure to turn in your Disabled/Senior Citizen Property tax credit forms prior to June 1, 2005. Those credits will be applied to the taxes due in September 2005.

All Union County residents who have purchased a home and moved should stop in and sign a New Homestead and Military Exemption, if eligible.
If you have made any building changes, please notify this office.
Family Farm Credit is now a one-time sign up and can be signed at any time for qualifying ground.
