All boats in Iowa had a renewal date of April 30, 2005. If you missed the deadline, there is a $5.00 penalty. If you plan to buy or sell a boat, ALL boats must have a current registration at the time of sale. Please call if you have any questions.

Passport fees are now $97.00 for ages 16 & older and $82.00 for ages 15 & under. Please apply early to avoid expedite fees. Processing times (6-7 weeks) are longer due to the number of passport requests. There are new application forms. If you have an old one, please stop by or log onto the website to print the new form.

Fall deer and turkey booklets should be available by mid-August. Stop by the office or check the DNR website for updates.

The new Union County Website is up and running. Please log onto www.unioncountyiowa.org . Forms are available to request a vital record or application for marriage.

The Auditor’s Office is preparing for the September 13, 2005 School Board Election. The School Election Ballot will be ready on August 22, 2005. The last day for Voter Registration for the School Board Election is September 2, 2005.

Iowa City State Papers Clients are now to go to the Department of Human Services for assistance.

August is the month for the new tax statements to go out. We hope to be mailing the statements out by the end of the 3rd week in August. The first half installment will be due by September 30th. Please remember to bring or send along the payment stubs as they help speed up the payment process.

Don’t forget that you can your taxes online at www.iowatreasurers.org. You can also get other useful information and forms from the website. Most motor vehicle forms are available there as well as Drivers License information.

All Union County residents who have purchased a home and moved should stop in and sign a New Homestead and Military Exemption, if eligible.

The qualification for any honorably discharged member of the United Armed Forces has been changed to be eligible for the military exemption on your property taxes. Now if you have served three or more consecutive years of service in the armed forces irregardless of when you served you are now eligible for a Military Exemption or if you have served for twenty years in the Reserves or the National Guard you are also eligible for the military credit. What is required to sign for this credit is either a DD-214 from the regular service or a complete listing of years served from the Guard or Reserve.

You are also required to inform this office if you have removed or built any new buildings or dwellings or if you have remodeled any buildings or dwellings.

Family Farm Credit is now a one-time sign up and can be signed at any time for qualifying owners.
