Courthouse News & Announcements

Courthouse News - May 2, 2006

UNION COUNTY RECORDER - Paula White, 641-782-1725.

Last year the law changed concerning boat sales. Casual sales (sales between individuals) are now subject to Iowa Sales Tax and depending on the point of delivery, local option tax. You will now need a Bill of Sale from the seller, current registration (expire 4/07) and a title if the boat is 17’ or longer.

Passport fees are now $97.00 for ages 16 & older and $82.00 for ages 15 & under. Please apply early to avoid expedite fees. Processing times (6-8 weeks) are longer due to the number of passport requests and the partial operation of the New Orleans agency. For questions log onto: travel.state.gov.

The Union County Website is up and running. Please log onto www.unioncountyiowa.org. Forms are available to request a vital record, marriage application, passport application or boat bill of sale form.

Drivers License (hours 8:30-4:00).

Delinquent tax notices went out May 1st.  Any property taxes that are not paid by Friday May 26th will be published in the paper in the annual tax sale listing on Friday June 2nd.  The annual tax sale will be held Monday June 19th.  You may pay your taxes before June 19th and have them removed from the tax sale.   Anyone wanting to register as a bidder for the tax sale may find the rules and regulations for the tax sale on the website after May 15th.  The website is www.iowatreasurers.org.

Delinquent taxes may be paid online at the above website.  If you currently have an outstanding tax sale on your property, you will need to make payment directly to our office.

Second half renewals on trucks registered over 6 ton are payable now.  Penalty on the second half will begin July 1st.  You may increase the tonnage for the second half but you cannot lower it.

As we near the end of the school year, just a reminder that any minor wanting to take a drivers license test will need to complete a parental consent form before they may test.  Two forms of ID are needed in order to test also.  A certified birth certificate (state or county issued and not the one from the hospital) and social security card are the preferred forms.  If you do not have one of those two, contact our office for the other approved forms that we may accept.
