Courthouse News - July 5, 2007

UNION COUNTY RECORDER, Paula White, 641-782-1725.

All Iowa Boat registrations expired April 30. The new registrations are a 3 year rotation. If you did not renew your boat, you will owe a $5.00 penalty.

Boaters Take Note: Casual sales (sales between individuals) are subject to Iowa Sales Tax and depending on the point of delivery, local option tax. You need a Bill of Sale from the seller, registration and a title if the boat is 17’ or longer.

NOTICE TO TRAVELERS

We are updating the time table to receive your passport due to the nationwide volume of passport applications.  We are now suggesting that you apply 16 weeks before your travel date to insure delivery of your passport in time to travel.  If you have not applied yet and your travel date is within this time frame you will need to expedite your application for an additional $60.00 and we strongly suggest you also include express mail both ways.  If you have already applied and you are traveling within the next 2 weeks and have not received your passport yet please contact the Union County Recorder’s office for assistance.

Forms are available to request a vital record, marriage application, passport application or boat bill of sale form at www.unioncountyiowa.org

UNION COUNTY AUDITOR - Sandy Hysell, 641-782-1701.

The Auditor’s office is balancing out fiscal year 2006-2007 and gearing up for fiscal year 2007-2008.

Our office is, also, preparing for the September 11, 2007 School Board Election. School Board candidates should file their papers with the School Board Secretary by 5:00 p.m. August 2, 2007.

UNION COUNTY TREASURER - Linda Marley,641-782-1710.
Drivers License (hours 8:30-4:00).

The annual tax sale was held on Monday June 18, 2007.  There were 45 registered bidders who purchased tax sale certificates on 186 parcels.  Notices of sale were sent to all the parcel owners by Friday June 22nd.  Several of those parcels have already been redeemed.  Property owners have at least two years to redeem but may have up to three years depending on when the tax sale investor serves 90 day notice of expiration.  There are approximately 40 parcels still left on the delinquent list that will be offered at the next adjourned tax sale.  Most of these parcels have taxes due of less than $100.00.

The Drivers License Station has been busy the past couple of weeks with students finishing up their drivers education courses.  Please be sure to come with you child to fill out the consent form necessary for them to upgrade their license.  If your child is upgrading from an Instruction Permit to either an Intermediate or Minor School License and their birthdate falls on the 10th, 20th or 30th, they will need to drive with our examiner even though they have completed drivers ed.  You will need to call in and schedule an appointment for the drive test.  They would also need to drive if the Drivers Ed Instructor has made such notation on their completion certificate or if their completion date is more than 1 year ago.
