Union County Treasurer Courthouse News
December 6, 2004

The new Motor Vehicle software will go live on January 3rd, 2005.  Our office will be closed on December 8th and 9th to attend hands on computer training for the new software.  The office will also be closed on December 31st as the DOT will have the motor vehicle and Drivers License computer servers shutdown in order to do the conversion of  the 4.5 million motor vehicle records from the state of Iowa into the system.  Along with all the other accounting items that we use.  Please jot down these dates so you don’t come into or call our office to find us not there.  If you were planning to do business on the last day of December, remember that using the mail and getting a postmark of December or using the website of www.iowatreasurers.org before midnight on the 31st will also avoid penalty.

The entire staff would like to ask for your patience at the counter after the first of the year.  We know it’s going to take a few weeks before we feel totally comfortable with the new software.

We have two new part-time employees starting in our office this month.  Denny Abel will be our new Drivers Examiner.  He will be giving the behind the wheel drive tests for drivers license.  Diana Carlson is the other new employee.  She will be working mostly with driver’s license doing the issuance and backup drives. The office has been working with one less employee since Fran retired and I took office in January 2003 because of the budget situation.  Being able to hire someone to do drives and someone else to help in the office 3 days a week will be a great help to us.
