Years in service at current county position:

Supervisor for 19 years.

Past employment & years in position:

1973- Graduated from Simpson College.
Worked construction in Des Moines and Indianola while
attending college.
1974- Bought a farm in Jones Township, Union
County and began a construction company doing
conservation work.
1975- Married Bev Hoyt, college sweetheart.
Opened and Operated the Ringgold, Decatur and Wayne
County Landfill and farmed.
1981- Started farming full time.
1985- Became Union County Supervisor and continued
farming to present.

Additional memberships in organizations:

Afton United Methodist Church member, administration board, trustee, 4-H Leader.
Union County Farm Bureau.
Several Hunting Organizations.
Lorimor Development Corporation.
Iowa Mormon Trails Association.
Iowa Watershed Board.
Chairman of the Three Mile Lake Project from the mid 80's
until completion of the lake in the mid 90's.
Creston Union Law Enforcement Commission.
County Board of Health.
Union County RC&D Committee and Executive Board.
Empowerment Board.
SIRF Board.
Decatorization Board.

Why do you enjoy being on the Union County Board?

Opportunity to help people and help Union County grow and prosper. Like being involved in the decision making process, enjoy sitting on the many local boards and finding ways to make life better in Union County. Welcome the opportunity to be in a position to make things happen for people at the local level, from gravel road concerns to the regional water system involving 3-Mile Lake.

Hopes for the future of Union County:

Tourism to continue to expand. Agriculture industry continue to explore valued added options. Towns to continue to look for ways to revitalize. Schools continue to offer excellent educational opportunities.

Family members & occupations:

Married Beverly, June 28, 1975.
3 Children, 1 Son-In-Law:
Sarah, 26, Married Erik Niggemeyer June 28, 2003. Sarah is an RN at the University of Iowa Hospital and is working on a Masters of Nurse Practioner.
Erik is a Physical Therapist at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Rebecca, 24, is an Elementary Teacher. She will be a 1st grade teacher in Ankeny schools this fall.
Matthew, 22, is a Senior at Grinnell College, Grinnell, Iowa. He is a math major and plays on the Grinnell College basketball team.

Hobbies:

Being Bev's husband, Sarah, Becca and Matt's dad. Preserving and promoting Mount Pisgah, a former settlement on the Mormon Trail which was located on my farm. Chain gang for East Union football program. Attending Matt's basketball games.
